Introducing the riveting 500 page début novel of Denise Mallett, one of Mark Mallett's three daughters! Denise is the second of his eight talented children.
The Tree is a Christian medieval fantasy, set in a world much like our own, where the mystical is often regarded as absurd. Journey alongside characters who must face their own darkness as they are driven into the realm of deceit, betrayal, and soul. In the words of one reader, “The Tree is not for the faint of heart”.

Exquisitely written... From the very first pages of the prologue, I could not put it down!
—Janelle Reinhart, Christian recording artist
This literary intrique, so deftly spun, captures the imagination as much for the drama as for the mastery of words. It is a story feld, not told, with eternal messages for our own world."
—Patti Maguire Armstrong, co-writer of the Amazing Grace series
The Tree is an extremely well-written and engaging novel. Mallett has penned a truly epic human and theological tale of adventure, love, intrigue, and the search for ultimate truth and meaning. If this book is ever made into a move—and it should be—the world need only surrender to the truth of the everlasting message.
—Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC, author & speaker

Wow. This book stands in a unique style category due to the author's creativity and intelligence, but it's her faith which balances this worthy offering with both gritty reality and hopefulness. It's suitable for teens and adults who enjoy an enriching, heroic tale about the triumph of good over evil. The story is delicately nuanced, but the battle lines are clear. I recommend this book very highly to any reader of the proper age. Please enjoy this book!

My daughter first read "The Tree" and kept urging me to do the same. What an amazing story filled with unexpected twists and turns. My heart soared and also ached as I made my way through this amazing story. I loved the book so much that I had to buy a new copy for my daughter because I didn't want to give her copy back to her. I also admit that this is a book that I will re-read numerous times and that puts it in special company with "Father Elijah" by Michael D. O'brien and "The Robe" by Lloyd C. Douglas. Thank you to author Denise Mallett for sharing the gift of your writing talents in "The Tree" !

This book, written by one so young, is a wonderful way to capture the hearts of tweens and adults alike. The story is engrossing, and it is difficult to put down. Because the number of characters introduced initially was a little confusing for me, I had to back track a bit to recall who was who when I did have to put the book down!
Well done, Denise. I look forward to watching your continued success.

"The Tree" is one of the best novels that I have read in a long time. It was also an eye opener to my own sinfulness, in just the little things, Looking forward to future books from Miss Mallet

Could not put down. Wording reminded me of "Lord of the Rings" - I have to admit that I laughed out loud reading some of the names of the characters.

Superbly written! I was most impressed by her descriptions- made me feel as if I were totally in the scenes-occasionally I had to put the book down because I was emotionally drained! Sorry to finish reading but so glad I did! Good luck in your future endeavors.

I enjoyed the book very much. I found it hard to believe that it was written by such a young person;

The Tree was such a well-written book, it was hard to believe it was written by one so young. But the innocence of Denise’s youth was delightfully detectable at times though the ease with which people trusted, believed and followed… I wish it was that easy to convince the skeptical. That didn’t detract from the story, however. I seldom read fiction and if it doesn’t seem worth my time, I will quit at any point and go find a good non-fiction to read! The Tree kept me coming back and looking forward to my time with it. I can’t wait to see what Denise comes up with next!

I think that Ms. Mallett is a very gifted and talented writer who knows her faith and appears to explain it effortlessly. She is a testimony to great parenting, and as a result, the rest of the world reaps the benefits! I hope that there will be a sequel, or that she continues to write such inspiring books!

I had to pause at first to understand the back story. The characters were alive and visual in their description. I loved the introduction of the Tree and it's challenges that were presented. The message of Love of Neighbor between peoples of different creeds was beautiful. I was most effected by the relations described with Adonai and the importance of Trust in the midst of difficult times. Thank you so much for the blessings I received in the reading of this book.

Ms. Mallett has an excellent writing style, quite engaging, smoothly flowing. The premise and structure of the book are both extremely large in possibility, which is both an advantage and a disadvantage.
I gather Ms. Mallett was quite concerned that everything would fit together, with no loose ends, and on that issue I believe she was near-perfect. Everything hung together and made sense to me.
However, her subject and the number of characters who needed to go through real, deep, and difficult changes were so large that 500 pages is actually too small a number to do justice to her subject and its rich set of facets. Strange to say but true.
To make a fully engaging transition from ego to gratitude is an enormous step for one character to complete in a book. For an author to try to do it for several at once meant that some characters made transitions that could not go deep enough to feel fully real to me. The most successful drawing of a character was for Rianne, and that held me. Her transition felt the most real of any in the book and on its own merits made the entire book worth reading.
Sometimes, more can be done with less. This book takes the opposite approach, incredibly ambitious in scope and scale. It's fun, insightful, adventurous, and in most aspects deep. I suspect a rereading of it may prove fruitful for me someday.
After all, a few days of reading by a reader who could never in a million years write something this good surely can't do full justice to the immense amount of effort, skill and inspiration that clearly went into this work. My criticisms above are minor compared to my admiration, and I hope Ms. Mallett will not be discouraged by them in any way.
In fact, I feel blessed to have read "The Tree" and am sure many people will enjoy it and benefit from reading it. I'm already looking forward to Ms. Mallett's next book!
